Microgateway 4.5
Airlock Microgateway 4.5 – Now certified for Red Hat OpenShift and more powerful in sidecarless mode
With Microgateway 4.5, the focus is on security, seamless integration, and an optimized sidecarless operation. The new release comes with an OpenShift certification, ensuring full Red Hat support for customers, along with enhanced OIDC support and extended support for Kubernetes Gateway API.
Certified for Red Hat OpenShift
As of version 4.5, Airlock Microgateway is officially certified for Red Hat OpenShift, making it the only container-based WAAP (web application and API protection) with this distinction. The certification provides:
- Simplified installation – even easier with the operator bundle
- Reduced dependencies – no need for the cert-manager anymore
- Full Red Hat support – for certified operators and their images. More details here.
- Best practices from Red Hat – reviewed and confirmed as part of the official certification
Recommendation: For the best experience and maximum efficiency, use Microgateway in sidecarless data plane mode (Kubernetes Gateway API).

OIDC Token Introspection – Enhanced security for APIs and Microservices
Microgateway 4.5 expands OpenID Connect (OIDC) support with token introspection, an optional security feature for even stronger access protection. When enabled, the validity of each token is continuously checked, ensuring that only valid tokens can be used to access APIs and microservices.
Enhancements for Kubernetes Gateway API
Microgateway relies on Kubernetes Gateway API as the standard for modern traffic management and introduces the following improvements in version 4.5:
- Ingress support – Microgateway can now also be used as an Ingress
- New configuration options – adjustable gateway parameters such as replica count, placement, pullSecret, and service type
- AccessControlPolicy – pre-authentication and authorization with OIDC at the gateway level, ensuring only authenticated and authorized requests can access services
- Extended features – now includes URL and path rewrites as well as backendTLS policies
- HeaderRewrites – header customization and filtering now available in sidecarless data plane mode
- Support for Gateway API 1.2.1 – compatibility with the latest Gateway API version
Expanded Grafana Dashboards for transparency and control
Microgateway 4.5 introduces expanded and new dashboards for detailed analytics and efficient monitoring:
- Gateway API monitoring – both sidecar and sidecarless data plane modes combined into a single dashboard
- Access control logs – a new log dashboard providing quick insights into authenticated and authorized accesses
- Request logs – detailed request analysis in a structured overview
This new release introduces numerous improvements for greater security, flexibility, and seamless integration. We look forward to your suggestions and feedback as we continue to improve Microgateway!
